Remuera.
Heritage trees, century-old plantings, and Auckland's most discerning homeowners.
Introduction
Remuera holds Auckland's deepest stock of heritage trees — mature oaks, plane trees, magnolias, jacarandas, and the occasional centenary kauri tucked behind a character villa. Many of these trees are protected on the property's title or under Auckland Council's notable tree schedule, which means a lot of the work in Remuera starts with paperwork rather than a chainsaw. We've worked across Victoria Avenue, Upland Road, Portland Road and the streets in between, and we know which trees can be touched, which need consents, and which need a proper arborist report before anyone makes a decision. The work itself, when it happens, is precise: crown reduction on heritage trees, careful dismantling around landscaped gardens, and hedge work that holds the lines that the original landscape architect intended.

Common tree work in Remuera.
01
Protected and notable trees
Many Remuera properties carry trees protected under Auckland Council's schedule of notable trees, with strict rules on pruning and removal. We check the schedule against your property before we quote, and we manage consents end-to-end where they're required.
02
Mature roots and old villas
Heritage villas and 50-year-old liquidambars or plane trees are a common combination, and the roots tell a story underneath. We assess root impact on foundations, paths, and drains before any decision, and recommend the right balance of tree health and property protection.
03
Landscaped gardens worth protecting
Most Remuera gardens have had decades of investment, and the cleanup matters as much as the climb. Lawn protection mats, garden boards on every plant we'd rather not crush, and a final walkover with you before we leave the site.

Crown reduction on a 90-year-old Magnolia, Victoria Avenue
A heritage magnolia leaning over a recently restored portico. Council schedule confirmed protection — we filed for consent, secured approval at the second-pass level, and reduced the crown by 18% over two days using selective tip pruning to AS 4373. The tree's character was preserved entirely, the portico is no longer at risk, and the homeowner kept their architect's original sightline to the front of the property.

FAQ
Questions from Remuera clients.
Auckland Council maintains a schedule of notable trees, and many Remuera properties also have property-specific protections written into the title. We check both before quoting any work, free of charge. If your tree is protected, you'll need a resource consent before any pruning beyond minor maintenance — we manage the application end-to-end if you'd like, including the supporting arborist report.
Almost never. Remuera driveways are usually generous enough for our chip truck, but where access is tight we use smaller vehicles, off-site chipping, or hand-carry to the kerb. Lawn mats and garden boards go down before any heavy traffic across plantings. If access is a problem we'll tell you in the quote — and we'll tell you what it'll cost in extra labour, so there are no surprises.
If your renovation will work within the dripline of any protected or notable tree, almost certainly yes. Many Remuera consents fall over because the arborist report came late, was thin, or didn't address tree protection during construction. We write reports that satisfy planners and that you'll actually use during the build, with clear protection zones and contractor instructions.
Yes — and Remuera hedges are some of our favourite work. Buxus, griselinia, photinia, totara, copper beech, and the long pittosporum boundaries that define so many of the streets. We shape to the lines the property was designed for, not the standard suburban hedge profile. Annual or twice-yearly maintenance contracts are common in Remuera; ask about scheduled work in your quote.
